Bullet for my Valentine – Prom Night

In 2007, Go Media was hired by the merch company Bravado to do an illustration for the band Bullet for My Valentine. They wanted something complex, detailed, and haunting, but not cliche. They also wanted it to take up the full front of the shirt and utilize some more advanced printing methods.

I went to work and put together photo references in place and began illustrating directly into Photoshop with my Wacom. I used watercolor textures as a more abstract way of filling in colored areas as opposed to the traditional flat color screen printed tee.

I love it. The colors are beautiful. I am especially fond of the ‘watercolor’ look you gave it, just enough color to make the line art stand out.. The washed out typography is a great add as well, not something you see a lot. The color you chose for the type is perfect too, not over powering at all. There is a great balance between the artwork and the name which I think makes these type of band t-shirts work.

Thanks Mandy, yeah I thought the band name might be kinda big. But truthfully, the way it was printed I feel like it makes it feel more epic.

I’ve always loved this design, ever since you first posted it on the ‘zine. If anyone knows if/where it’s available for purchase, let me know. I’d be keen to buy it. XD
