Go Media was hired to do the official art for the Cedar Lee Cult Film series. Cedar Lee is Cleveland’s hippest indie and art house film theater, located in Cleveland Heights. The Cult Film Series happens every year and they’re know for showing some of the best “worst” movies of all time. In this particular case the wonderfully bad A.P.E. in 3D was supposed to be the focal point of the poster.
If you haven’t heard of this, check out the awesome clips on YouTube. This was my concept. I like how it came out, however David approved a different concept from my colleague Chris Comella which was very deserving. My idea was to create a throwback vintage 70s horror/thriller poster. It features fire, sharks, and of course the ape. All symbols from the movie. The sharks overhead also resemble helicopters which are also part of the movie.

awesome posters, and man, what and awesome movie lineup. a lot of my favourites in there.
these are so good jeff, so minimal, so sick
Now that’s a great poster! The colors, the fonts, all matches the look perfectly! I love the M*A*S*H type of idea with APE 3D.
Both yours and Oliver’s have that look of an old movie poster or VHS tape. I am surprised the purple one was the winner, it doesn’t read ‘Cult Classic’ to me its more ‘Ice Hockey Extravaganza!’
Nevertheless, your design is amazing and I always like seeing these side projects of yours!
Great stuff Jeff. I really like how you mimicked the poster folds in your design.
looks great!!! love the fake-folds
Looks good ! I also really like the last one, really simple, bold and efficient.
Hey Jeff how did you do these fake folds ? Brushes ? texture ?
On the fake folds: I filled an 8.5×11 document in PS with nothing but black. I printed it out on our laser printer and and folded it manually. I tried to really get those creases sharp. The ink was getting crackled and flaking off and dirty. I scanned it in and set the layer to screen out the black.
Ohhh gotcha! Thanks
any way you could share the “crease” layers with us as a freebie? =P
cool staff really like it..
What type of paper and printing was done with this?
